Classical style oil on wood representing Mesnières en Bray Castle in Normandy.

Carved and gilded wood frame.

Signed Frank ?

In the 11th century, a wooden fortress was built by the local lord Robert de Mesnières, , to control the passage of an ancient Roman road and the valley of the Béthune.

After centuries of successions, the fortress was dismantled by the English in the 15th century during the Hundred Years War.

The Mesnière en Bray castle was then rebuilt in the 16th century on the ruins of the fortress under the impetus of Charles Boissay, inspired by the Renaissance architecture of the Loire castles.

The fortress was considered the centre of the village for centuries, providing bread and electricity, and was one of the largest listed historic monuments in 1862. This painting features vibrant colours and the fine brushstrokes.

Perfect on the walls of your bedroom, dining room or library.

It will also make an excellent gift for a lover of French art and heritage.
