Vintage "Pigeon"-style kerosene lamp

It is composed of a cylindrical pewter base and a fine rounded glass globe/glass bowl.

Oil lamps have been a primary source of lighting for centuries.

Kerosene eventually replaced whale oil, after its discovery in 1846 and revolutionised artificial lighting : the yellow flame it produced was much brighter than any flame produced by oil.

The first modern kerosene lamp was invented by Polish inventor Ignacy Łukasiewicz in 1853.

This lamp will be perfect for bringing a subdued lighting to your interior, while adding a retro touch.

It is also a great gift for a collector of retro objects.

Very good state.
