Superb vintage GODIN cooker /stove with a blue enamelled cast iron front and frames, contoured by heavy sheet metal.

This model #618, known as the "Lyon type" is equipped with a boiler and a warming overn as well as a faucet. The metal parts seem to be nickel plated The oven is heated by wood or coal. A plate indicates ANC MON GODIN - GUISE 618 (AISNE)

In 1840, Jean-Baptiste André GODIN created the company that still bears his name today, in Guise, in the department of Aisne. In 1846, the brilliant industrial pioneer had the idea of substituting an enamelled cast iron stove for the traditional sheet metal stove. He filed a patent and became the inventor of the cast-iron wood stove. Dozens of models followed, including the famous "PETIT GODIN" which, through its fame, made GODIN a common name synonymous with heating and cooking.
